I’m Elisabeth. I'm a 40 year old mum of two incredible boys, Jack and Charlie and now, a beautiful baby girl, Isla. Along with my husband, Nick - they are the light of my life.
I have always loved literature. English was my favourite subject at school and creative writing was always something I enjoyed. I majored in English (Creative Writing) at university but really had no idea what I wanted to do with it, so after I completed my degree, I went back to uni and studied to become a nurse. I was a nurse for 10 years working in both ICU and theatres, here in Australia and abroad and I absolutely loved it. However, after my beautiful mum, Karina passed away from cancer in 2018, I decided to take some time away from nursing. I needed some space from illness and hospitals whilst I grieved and tried to figure things out.
One night, after mum died, in the depths of my grief, ‘If You Were Here’ poured out of me onto paper and I realised where my heart was. Writing books for children that help their little hearts connect with their feelings and become more aware of the beautifully complex world around them feels like a new, and humbling journey that I am so excited to be on.
If You Were Here is my first picture book which I launched in August, 2021. It is beautifully illustrated by the amazingly talented UK based artist/illustrator, Anita Bagdi. If You Were Here is a story of my little boy, Jack who was 3 at the time of losing my mum, reaching out to her, telling her of all the things they would do together, if only she were still here. He yearns for her, but then slowly begins to see that his Yiayia is in many ways, still with him - loving him as always. He begins to find new ways to connect with her as he slowly moves through his grief to a place of hope. You can read a bit more about how it came about here, but we are so grateful to be able to share it with you and hopefully help other children and families navigate through their loss, together.
Mum also completed her own memoir, Life Interrupted which we have had published since she passed away with 100% of sales going to blood cancer research. You can also purchase the Fundraising bundle which includes both If You Were Here & Life Interrupted with $30 from every purchase going to blood cancer research.
Moonlight Goodnight is my second picture book that launched in November, 2021. I created this book with my good friend and extremely talented artist, Karina Jambrak. Narrated by the main character, Owl, it is a beautifully illustrated bedtime story written in rhyme about some very sleepy creatures who are waiting to say goodnight to all little ones who read it. This timeless story, detailed with beautiful gold foil accents, is one to be passed down through generations.
My third picture book, Beresford Bear is my second project with my talented friend, Anita Bagdi. It is a light-hearted, funny story about a bear who has moved into his new home in the forest, only to find that he has some very noisy new neighbours. With strong themes of kindness and friendship, this story is one all children and parents will love.
Willow is my fourth picture book and I am so grateful to have again been able to work with Anita on this project. A story of resilience and courage in the face of adversity - something we can all relate to - young and old. Willow is now on sale!
I have also released a small collection of poetry which are all now available for purchase.
